A Bedroom Makeover

Bonjour!! Oh my goodness I’m finally back! I can’t believe it’s been almost three weeks since my last post….I really am terrible at this blogging business these days lol…..In all honesty I get so sidetracked in my day with everything that needs doing and then come the evening my brains on shut down mode and I’m too tired to even think about writing. Tonight however, my brain has woken up a little after being on shut down mode all day.

It has been an extremely busy week ever since last Saturday when I thought it would be smart to try and get a weeks worth of work done in a weekend! Big mistake, huge mistake! While I did manage to revamp and transform Bec’s room it was all redone later in the week when we bought her a double bed. I had planned to get her the bed at the end of the year as her end of year present but I was able to find what I was looking for on a Facebook Buy & Sell page. So instead of trying to hide it for the next six weeks we decided to give it to her early and set it up. Needless to say she’s extremely happy with it and just a tad chuffed she now has a double bed.

So lets have a look how her room looked Saturday afternoon.

I decided to put her single bed on the diagonal which looked really good walking into the room.

Now we picked up her bed Wednesday afternoon and being as it was late in the day I didn’t get it all finished until Thursday morning but it’s come up beautifully and personally I think it’s a great room for Bec heading into her teens. Lets have a look at the end result.

So cute she still has teddies on her bed.
A few new accessories really finished the room.
With her bed back against the wall it really shows off the lovely detail on the head end.
I love this picture I bought from Kmart about two years ago now.
I revamped this bedside table from Kmart earlier in the year.
Her pony pic and accessories here look great. The only change coming soon is a longer bookcase.

All in all I’m really happy with the changes to Bec’s room and I think the decor should last her a few years being as we’ve gone for a more grown up look. And you can believe all the bedding choices were mine because if it was up to Bec it would have been a Dockers quilt cover with matching sheets and footy posters on the walls! So not happening in this house lol…..she’s slowly becoming more girly but we’ve still got a way to go. She is a tomboy after all.

Well that’s it from me tonight mes amis, I’m off to make a cuppa and chill for a while before bed. I hope you’ve all had a great week and have lots planned for the weekend.

Au revoir pour le moment….

A Little Revamping….

Bonjour lovelies, ca va? How are you all going? I can’t believe it’s been a month since my last post!! I’ve been trying to pull this house together and find us all the furniture we need on a budget. Funds are tight since we got home so there’s going to be a fair bit of revamping going on but that doesn’t bother me as you all know I love to revamp.

Today I thought I’d share a quick post on my daughter’s bed. She’s been sleeping on a folder bed since before we left tassie and with her visiting family in Broome I thought now was the time to buy her a ‘new’ bed and organize her room for her as a surprise while she’s away. Let me just say I should have taken a before pic of her room to give you an idea of the transformation but I didn’t think of it at the time. Her room was a disaster and I honestly didn’t know where to start to tackle the mess. Any I’m digressing….I was home the other day when hubby called and said he was heading to the salvo’s between jobs to see if they had any decent furniture and he found a cream (yuck hate cream lol) pipeline bed for $40!! So I met him there and my first thought was ‘yuck, yeah not happening’ lol….mostly because the bed was scratched and had marks all over it. There was a different wooden bed there that I liked better and after hubby almost pulling the whole thing apart to buy I changed my mind back to the pipeline bed lol……believe me, he could have killed me……now in my defense I liked the wooden bed but whoever attached the slats did a shonky job and the gaps between were too big. Also as hubby was pulling it apart I realized I could paint the pipeline bed!!

I liked the shape of the pipeline bed and as I stood there looking at it I remembered a few years back I’d used Rust-oleums Gloss Spray Paint and really liked it. SO that was the moment I thought, ‘yep I can make this how I want it.’ Of course then I had to tell  hubby to leave the wood bed and we’re taking the pipeline bed……lol too funny really……we dropped the bed home, hubby went back to work and I headed to Bunnings with Francis to track down the right colour. Now our Bec loves blue but the only blue they had was a boring old dark blue, so I chose a nice blue/green colour called seaside, which I think suits her considering how much she loves the beach.

There is so much you can do with this paint…

We headed home and I got to work straight away sanding back the gloss off the cream paint. Again I didn’t take a before pic (why do I never remember) before I started sanding but I was so happy with it after the sanding….even just sanding it back made such a big difference.

After sanding back the old gloss….it was very quick and easy to get done.

It didn’t take long to sand back the bed at all which I was grateful for because it was a warm day. I then hosed off all the debris and let it dry fully before applying the first coat of paint.

Gorgeous colour and I know Bec will love it…

It’s amazing the rig up I have to do when I want to do these things as I never seem to end up with a workshop when we move house but I manage to get things done any way. I figure it’s best to do spray painting outside in the open where there’s plenty of ventilation. So I had to wait an hour between coats and I had to spin each side around as well to cover it evenly. I have to admit the last spray paint job I did, didn’t come out too well but that’s because I did it all wrong and I’ve since learned that short overlapping strokes get the best results and it’s so true. Even hubby was really impressed when he came home from work and saw the results. I left it outside over night to fully dry before bringing it in the next day.

Once I sorted out the disaster of cyclone Bec and Eva in the bedroom the next morning and almost all afternoon I finally got the bed in there and arranged her bedroom so it would work well for her. In between paint drying I also took a trip to Kmart and bought a bedside table and lamp for her room as well……just a bit spoiled but she has no idea yet.

It was hard to get good lighting in here as her rooms a tight fit….

I’m absolutely loving the way the bed came up and I can’t believe I haven’t bought more beds because I thought I couldn’t ‘fix’ them. The bedside table and lamp are what I bought at Kmart. I’m determined to show how you can completely decorate your home on a budget after all we can’t all afford or have the budget for designer furniture.

The picture on the wall was done by a very talented friend of mine who created a Monet inspired pic for me and I think she did an awesome job…

Her drawers were also given to us by the same friend who did the painting and they’re a really good size. I think she’s going to love it when she gets home and I can’t wait to see the look on her face.

Now that Bec’s room is sorted I’m on the look out for some dining chairs to revamp as the ones we have are so uncomfortable plus we only have 5 of them and need six to eight at least……Well lovelies I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, I feel like it’s been forever since I did a revamp post and I really need to get back to doing more of them as I really do love doing them. If you’ve got any questions on the paint or how to get the best results then leave me a comment below and I’ll get back to you……take care for now and I’ll be back soon.

Au revoir
